On the night of 28 September 2016, when the whole country was sleeping peacefully, then Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and some top leaders were writing the script of New India. The hustle and bustle in the Prime Minister’s Office was at its peak as Indian Army personnel had returned to their country after breaking into the Pakistani border and eliminating terror camps. With the rising of the sun on 29th September, the whole world knew that the sunrise of New India has come, this new India will neither bow nor stop.
This historic day in the history of India is known as Surgical Strike Day. Today we are celebrating the sixth anniversary of that indomitable courage of India. So let’s know what happened that night…..
The entire script of Surgical was written on 18 September 2016. When terrorists from Pakistan attacked the Indian Army camp in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. 18 brave soldiers of India were martyred in this deadly attack. After this incident, there was an atmosphere of outrage in the whole country. People were getting restless to take revenge from Pakistan. Then PM Modi had said that those who attack our country will not go without fear and they will not be forgiven. The sacrifice of 18 soldiers will not go in vain like this. In response to the attack, counter-attacks were launched against terrorist groups on the night of 28–29 September.
After the Uri attack, India planned to teach a lesson to Pakistan and for the first time, action was carried out against the terrorists by crossing the Line of Control (LoC). The surgical strike operation was carried out on the night of 28-29 September with the help of 150 commandos of the Indian Army’s special forces. Indian Army personnel entered 3 km in PoK at midnight and destroyed the hideouts of the terrorists.
At 12 midnight on 28 September, 150 commandos were landed near the LoC through MI 17 helicopters. From here, 25 commandos of 4 and 9 Para carried out the surgical strike by crossing the LoC and going to Pak Occupied Kashmir. The army had started its preparations for this strike from 24 September itself. The Special Commandos were equipped with Tavor 21 and AK-47 assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-fib missiles, night-vision devices, high-explosive grenades, Heckler and Koch pistols and plastic explosives.
Without losing any chance, the commandos started throwing grenades at the terrorists. As the chaos spread, the soldiers also started firing bullets with smoke grenades. Along with the terrorists, some soldiers of the Pakistani army were also killed in this attack. This operation started at 12.30 in the night, which went on till 4.30 in the morning. The entire operation was monitored from the Army Headquarters in Delhi.
