Punjab: Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, President of the Punjab Congress, sent a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday expressing grave concern over the pro-Khalistani activist Amritpal Singh’s increasing activities. Singh is currently in the news for moving around with armed men in a manner reminiscent of the murdered Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
“Like every Punjabi, you must be aware of one Amritpal Singh’s activities. People all around the state are becoming more worried about what he says and does”, according to Warring’s letter.

Amrinder said, “September 29 celebration at Rode Village in Moga District had added to worry and confusion among people”
“Let me be clear that his religious preaching and the manner in which he is attempting to baptise young Sikhs are not controversial. The tone and tenor of these ceremonies, as well as the statements made during them, do, however, cause some individuals to feel genuine concern”, he continued.
In a letter, the leader of the Punjab Congress claimed that the September 29 celebration at Rode Village in Moga District had added to “worry and confusion among people” and that the “speeches delivered on the occasion were clearly far from what these should be at a religious function.”
“The vocabulary, tone, and tenor of Amritpal’s and those around him during his remarks are also not solely religious. He needs to make it clearer what he means by particular remarks. Such claims have the potential to mislead impressionable young people. Additionally, the risk is considerably higher now since we live in a social media age, Warring noted.
“The response and remarks of people, particularly young people, on different social media sites where Amritpal sends his ‘messages and updates’ about his actions are the reason why I am feeling disturbed. I’m hoping that Punjab Police has already taken the case. In order to prevent the matter from getting out of hand, I implore you to maintain a rigorous surveillance and keep an eye on his activities as a responsible Punjabi and concerned citizen of the nation,” he added.

Warring claimed that “it must also be confirmed as to what is the objective and motive” of the group “Waris Punjab De” and how Amritpal “landed out of the blue as he was well settled in Dubai where he spent most of the time after having migrated there” might be answered.
Punjab cannot afford to endure yet another period of bloodshed and turmoil. I don’t want to come across as overly worried. But I also can’t turn a blind eye to what I see going on around me because
I’m a good Punjabi, Warring said.
“As a committed and responsible police officer, I’m confident you’ll take all necessary precautions to ensure that the issue doesn’t spiral out of hand. The sooner it is finished, the better,” he continued.
