The CBI today filed a chargesheet in a court against 16 people, including Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi, both of whom were previously chief ministers and whose son is currently the deputy chief minister of Bihar. The alleged job scam occurred during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as railway minister in the Congress-led UPA government more than ten years ago.
On May 18, the agency filed an FIR against the husband-wife team, two of their daughters, Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, as well as 12 other individuals who were hired by the railways. The majority of them have bailed.
The main accusation is that Lalu Yadav’s family received more than 1 lakh square feet of land in Patna that belonged to the families of job seekers in exchange for jobs.
In addition to other cases brought against the Yadav family, the CBI case has been described by the RJD as “a political tactic of the BJP’s central administration.” Tejashwi Yadav, the son of Mr. Yadav, recently took over as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s deputy in Bihar after the latter abandoned the BJP to renew the JDU and RJD’s coalition.
Three months after Lalu Yadav’s aide Bhola Yadav was detained by the CBI, the charge sheet in the “land-for-job scam” was filed. He served as the then railway minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) from 2005 until 2009, earning the nickname “Hanuman” or “shadow” from RJD fans.

In “undue haste,” railway authorities allegedly appointed job applicants as “substitutes” in Group D posts three days after they submitted their applications.
When “the individuals themselves or their family members transferred their land,” according to the organization, they were eventually offered normal jobs.
It is also asserted that Rabri Devi and her two daughters’ names were on the sale deeds used to transfer the land.
