On Monday, several cities of Ukraine were attacked by the Russian army. There are reports of a large number of people dying and getting injured in these attacks. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also expressed concern about the war.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying that India is deeply concerned by the escalation of conflict in Ukraine, involving targeting of infrastructure and civilians. We want to reiterate that it is not in anyone’s interest to escalate hostilities. We call for an immediate return to the path of diplomacy and dialogue for an immediate end to hostilities. India supports all efforts to reduce tensions.
The statement said that since the beginning of the conflict, India has stood by its stand which is based on the principles of the global order, the United Nations Charter, international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.
Russia has carried out major attacks on many cities including Ukraine’s capital Kyiv after months. The Russian army fired more than seventy missiles at Kyiv and other cities. Earlier, there was an explosion on a bridge connecting Crimea to Russia and it was described by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a ‘terrorist act’.
Sharing some pictures of the Russian attacks on Twitter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote – The world has once again seen the true face of a terrorist country, killing our people on the battlefield and in peaceful cities. A country that covers up its real bloody goal by talking about peace. This proves that liberation is the only basis of peace and security.’
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued an advisory. The embassy wrote – In view of the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, Indian citizens are advised to avoid all non-essential travel and exit Ukraine. Strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the Ukrainian government and local authorities.
The embassy has requested the Indian nationals to inform the embassy about their situation in Ukraine so that the embassy will be able to reach them wherever required.
EU President Ursula von der Leyen said, “Shocked by the vicious attacks on Ukrainian cities. Putin’s Russia has again shown the world what it stands for – brutality and terror. I am sure the Ukrainians will stand firm. Ursula Vaughan further said, we will stand with Ukraine as long as we have all the means.’
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry tweeted a video and wrote – We know that the whole free world will support us and help us stop these bloodthirsty terrorists under the guise of the state.
