Altaf Shah alias Fantosh, the elder son-in-law of radical Syed Ali Shah Geelani, died in the early hours of today at AIIMS in Delhi. This information has been given by his daughter Ruva Shah. Altaf Shah was counted among the prominent and effective leaders of the radical faction of the Hurriyat Conference. Cancer victim Altaf Shah was arrested by the NIA on July 25, 2017 in connection with terror funding.
Waheed Para, head of the youth wing of the People’s Democratic Party, had also allegedly given him a sum of five crores for organizing a series of violent protests in the valley. Altaf Shah was admitted to AIIMS Delhi last week only after the intervention of the court. Altaf Shah has two daughters and a son.
Shah was arrested in 2017 along with six others in a terror funding case. The Delhi High Court had on October 5 ordered Shah’s transfer to AIIMS Delhi for proper treatment of cancer. Shah had told the court that he was undergoing treatment for some serious ailments at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML), but it was recently discovered that he was suffering from kidney cancer.
He had claimed that RML does not have adequate facilities for the treatment of kidney cancer. Shah had urged the court that he should be allowed to be immediately transferred to AIIMS or Apollo Hospital for treatment. Shah is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
