Doctors and staff members of Hindu Rao Hospital have staged a protest in Delhi over non-payment issue.
A group of doctors including nurses raised slogans, placards, and went violent during the protest. The staff and doctors are reportedly not paid since June. Protesters said that the hospital administration has not paid their salaries for the last 4 months and that it would take 2 more months to clear their dues.
Hindu Rao Hospital has 900 COVID beds and it is the Delhi’s largest COVID hospital. As of now it is currently a dedicated COVID-19 facility. Earlier many of its healthcare workers had contracted the infection.
Since, it is a dedicated coronavirus facility, the “services will not be essentially affected”.
“We are on a symbolic indefinite strike to make our voices heard to authorities, who have not responded to our appeal so far. We have been doing the symbolic pen down from 9 am to 12 noon, for the last several days, as well as online protests, but no one listened to us,” said Abhimanyu Sardana, president of the Resident Doctors Association of the facility.
The emergency services, COVID care wards are still operating smoothly. According to the civic body, the matter is being looked into. Earlier, doctors and medical workers had launched an online campaign last week, saying they had not been paid for over 100 days
