NZ vs BAN: On Wednesday, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in the tri-nation series with ease, winning by a score of 48 runs to earn a spot in the final match. Kane Williamson’s team amassed a substantial 208/5 in 20 overs before holding Bangladesh to 160/7. Even though Bangladesh opener Najmul Hossain Shanto received a lifeline as a result of an interesting incident that occurred in just the first over of the innings, Shakib Al Hasan’s top score of 70 off just 44 deliveries was insufficient for the visitors.
Trent Boult, New Zealand pacer, pitched the ball slightly back as the left-handed batter charged down the track. Shanto swung his bat rather aimlessly as he struggled to adjust to the length and discovered a top edge that was flying high. Although it appeared that Devon Conway had signalled for the catch, he stopped in his effort to win the ball, and four New Zealand fielders, including Boult, remained motionless as the ball fell. The players couldn’t believe Conway’s fielding error, which left the left-arm pacer incensed. Conway later extended an apology to his teammates.
Prior to that, Shakib entered the game at number four and immediately made his intentions known as the batter danced down the wicket on the first ball and hit a strong boundary. After 10 overs, Bangladesh had reached 90/2 thanks to the left-hander and Soumya Sarkar’s 43-run partnership, which they shared in just 21 balls.
Afif Hossain did not pose much of a threat to the hosts before Bracewell sent him back to the pavilion in the 12th over, giving him his second wicket. Bangladesh continued to lose wickets and ultimately finished 48 runs short.
