Roger Binny: The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India elected former cricket great Roger Binny, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, as its 36th president on Tuesday. At Mumbai’s BCCI AGM, his appointment was made public. Sourav Ganguly, the previous captain of India, is replaced by Binny. For the position of BCCI president, only 67-year-old Binny had submitted the nomination.
The election of the following group of office holders was only a formality because everyone was expected to win without a challenge.
During his most recent tenure, Binny served as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association; of which he will now resign from this role. The medium pacer played a key role in India’s historic World Cup victory in 1983. He recorded the most wickets in that renowned tournament’s edition with 18 in eight games.
When Sandeep Patil was the chairman in the past, Binny participated in the senior selection committee. During his tenure at that post, He withdrew himself from discussions if his son Stuart Binny’s name was mentioned as a potential candidate for the Indian squad.
Sourav Ganguly was offered IPL Chairmanship
According to earlier reports, Ganguly held many talks with the stakeholders last week in New Delhi. The former India captain was eager to serve a second term as BCCI President, but he was informed that this had never happened before.

“Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position,” the BCCI source said.
In the instance of Dhumal, the decision-makers waited for Ganguly to decide whether to accept the position of IPL chairman before promoting the Himachal man, who, together with secretary Shah, is regarded as one of the most effective members of the last BCCI cabinet.
