Misbah Ul Haq: Following Pakistan’s humiliating six-wicket loss to England in their T20 World Cup warm-up match, Babar Azam and his side have come under fire from the country’s former captain Misbah-Ul-Haq. Misbah expressed displeasure with the physical condition of Pakistani players, pointing out that some of them are unfit and that, except from a select handful, no one is taking the situation seriously. After England defeated Pakistan by chasing down their total of 160/8 and winning the game with 26 balls remaining, Misbah criticised the team’s trainer for Pakistan and disclosed that part of the former coaching staff had resigned because the players had not placed enough emphasis on their fitness.

“Clear cut, fitness issues are visible, Waqar left four times [as coach], I left once. Players like myself, Shoaib Malik, and Younis Khan were quite into fitness, and we used to push ourselves. Those who push others out of their limitations are not considered good trainers nor good coaches. Their tummies are visible; their lower are heavy and they can’t move. The reason behind this is there has not been a single fitness test, there is no benchmark,” Cricket Pakistan quoted Misbah as saying.
Misbah labelled it as a joke
Misbah continued by labelling it a “joke” and describing how this is a subject that is not being addressed at the grassroots level. In order to secure the future generation of Pakistan cricket players, the former captain of that nation emphasised the importance of internal transformation. When Misbah or another former Pakistan cricketer attempted to emphasise player health, those in charge would often respond lightly.

“Fitness test level during domestic season becomes a joke. We used to have arguments that we used to say that the standard used for the international level must be used for the domestic level as well. The responsible people at the domestic level always opposed us related to fitness.”
At the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, Pakistan will play against India.
