Roger Binny: Ahead of their forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter on Sunday, October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny, has spoken out on whether India are the favourites.
In the T20 World Cups from 2007 to 2016, India had a perfect record against Pakistan. But the Men in Green, captained by Babar Azam, made their debut after defeating India by 10 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium the previous year.
However, Binny, who was a member of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983, believed that India will enter the forthcoming game as the favourite.
“India don’t have the underdog tag anymore. Now they are favourites every game they go into. And T20 is how you play in that moment. I don’t think toss will play that big a part as it did in Dubai and previous T20 matches. The pitches are going to be good and I think it’s going to be a great game to watch and I am looking forward to it,” Binny was quoted as saying.
Binny, who took over for Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president earlier this year, added that players won’t be affected by public pressure and publicity. “Once the players get on the field, there is absolutely no pressure at all. We just play it like another match. The players basically follow what the orders are,” he stated.
“Pressure is built up outside and the team doesn’t really suffer from that. It’s the public that builds up the pressure as they are more tensed than the players,” Binny added.
Recently, Pakistan and India competed in the Asia Cup 2022. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan triumphed in the second game after India won the first one.
