IND vs PAK: When Axar Patel was ruled run out on what many felt to be an unclear dismissal during the India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup game on Sunday, controversy broke out. The dismissal occurred on the first ball of the Indian innings’ seventh over; it was a faster delivery from Shadab Khan, who entered the attack after the powerplay was completed, and Axar hit a defensive shot on the leg side. The batsman rushed for a single, and even as Kohli got going, he ultimately told Axar to turn around.
Even though skipper Babar Azam struggled with his pick-up, the left-hander ultimately managed to deliver the ball in time for Rizwan to remove the bails since he had arrived close to the centre of the pitch. Axar was far beyond the crease when the stumps were struck, according to the replays, but it was still unclear if Rizwan had removed the bails with the ball or his gloves.
Although Babar and Rizwan first appeared to be upset and their body language did suggest that they had missed their chance to remove Axar, the third umpire ultimately declared Axar Patel to be out.
The umpire’s judgement didn’t sit well with the supporters, and many expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
Anjum Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, expressed astonishment at the judgement and questioned whether Rizwan had the ball in his hands when the bails fell.
