Serena Williams Retirement: In a statement on Monday, Serena Williams insisted that she has not yet retired from tennis. Since she had previously stated that she will retire from tennis following the U.S. Open last month, but in a change of word, the greatest tennis icon remarked that the likelihood of her coming back is “very high.”
When Williams was promoting her investment firm, Serena Ventures, she asserted, “I am not retired,” at a conference in San Francisco. “The chances (of a return) are very high. You can come to my house, I have a court. I still haven’t really thought about (retirement),” Williams said.
Continuing further, she said “But I did wake up the other day and go on the court and (considered) for the first time in my life that I’m not playing for a competition, and it felt really weird. It was like the first day of the rest of my life and I’m enjoying it, but I’m still trying to find that balance.”
Olympia Williams, a five-year-old girl, is Williams’s first child. She cited her five-year-old Olympia as one of the reasons she decided to stop playing tennis. Williams also mentioned that she now wants to expand her family.
“I always said I wanted to stop when I’m playing really good tennis and winning and beating good players. For me, it’s really about things I want to do spiritually and spending time with my daughter and family.”
“As a super hands-on mom, I can’t tell you how hard it was. I lost so many matches after I had Olympia because it was so hard to be on the court.
“I feel like I’ve given so much of my life to tennis, my entire life, that it’s time to do something different for me and also work on other things. When you’re on the inside, you can’t see it. It’s completely different when you’re involved.”
