Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, tried to land his helicopter in Upper Shillong on Wednesday but was unable to due to inclement weather, so he made an emergency landing nearby the picturesque Umiam lake.
The state’s western region, in the Garo Hills, is where the chief minister had just finished an official visit to his district.
He explained on Twitter that severe weather forced the helicopter to land at the United Christian College Ground at Umiam Lake, where he enjoyed the picturesque surroundings, interacted with college staff members, and had lunch.
“The weather is truly unpredictable. Thank the Captain & Pilot for bringing us back safely,” he said.
“We diverted for safety reasons and it is good. We will figure out a way to get back to the city,” he said.
