The Supreme Court has dismissed the application filed against DY Chandrachud, who is going to be the new Chief Justice of the country. In this application, there was a demand to restrain Justice DY Chandrachud from taking oath as the Chief Justice. While hearing this application, the Supreme Court said that there is nothing worth hearing in this application.
Justice DY Chandrachud is scheduled to take oath as Chief Justice on November 9. He has been elected as the Chief Justice of the country in place of Justice UU Lalit. The application was filed against Justice Chandrachud on behalf of a lawyer, which was presented before the bench of Justices Ravindra Bhat and Bela M. Trivedi. Justice Chandrachud is going to take oath as the 50th Chief Justice of the country.
In fact, while rejecting this petition, the Supreme Court said that after hearing the argument of the lawyer, we did not see any reason to consider the petition. The Supreme Court further said that the petition is completely misleading. A bench headed by Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit heard the matter today. The nominated Chief Justice of India Chandrachud is to take oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9.
Recently, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had announced the appointment of Justice Chandrachud as the Chief Justice and his tenure as CJI would be for two years. Justice Chandrachud is the son of the longest serving CJI in the country, Justice YV Chandrachud. His father was the head of the Indian judiciary from 22 February 1978 to 11 July 1985. Justice Chandrachud was elevated as a judge of the apex court on 13 May 2016 and will retire on 10 November 2024.
