Rilee Rossouw: On November 3, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rilee Rossouw performed an act of brilliance to dismiss half-centurion Iftikhar Ahmed and complete a team hat-trick as Pakistan became gung-ho near the end of their innings against South Africa.
In a game that Pakistan had to win, openers Babar Azam (6) and Mohammad Rizwan (4) once again fell short, forcing the middle order to carry the bulk of the load. But 21-year-old Mohammad Haris’ scorching World Cup cameo (28 off 11 balls) gave the team a lift on the powerplay.
On the last delivery of the 19th over, Anrich Nortje finally ended the 82-run partnership between Iftikhar and Shadab. Shadab attempted to knock Nortje’s short delivery down leg, but instead he found Tristan Stubbs at deep midwicket.
The very next delivery, Nortje caught Mohammad Wasim (0) off guard with a bouncer, giving South Africa a two-out-of-two victory.
In the following over, Kagiso Rabada began with a full delivery to Iftikhar. The batsman connected well to launch it towards long-on, but Rossouw pulled off a stunning catch right at the edge of the boundary.
After leaping and grabbing the ball with both hands above his head, Rossouw managed to control his momentum and land comfortably a few inches inside the goal line. With the catch, South Africa secured a team hat-trick by taking three wickets in three deliveries.
