Shoaib Akhtar: A Twitter argument between former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar and Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami erupted following Pakistan’s five-wicket loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup final. Akhtar tweeted an emoticon depicting heartbreak after Pakistan failed to defeat a 137-run total in the championship match in Melbourne. Following that, Shami, who was a member of India’s T20 World Cup team, retweeted Akhtar’s message and said “Sorry brother. It’s call karma”.
Shoaib Akhtar’s response goes viral
Within minutes, the tweet went viral. Then, Akhtar replied to the tweet as well. “And this is what you call a sensible tweet” Akhtar tweeted the following message along with a picture of Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle: “Credit to Pakistan. Few teams would have defended 137 the way they did. Best bowling team.” Akhtar’s response also went viral.
England won the highly-anticipated finale
Talking about the match, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran shone as England defeated Pakistan by a margin of five wickets to win the titles, making them the first team in the history of the sport to hold both crowns. (50-over world cup and 20-over world cup)
Jos Buttler’s team restricted Pakistan to 137/8. Player of the match and tournament Curran took three wickets, and Adil Rashid added two more. As they failed to establish any momentum against a ferocious pace attack and found it difficult to hit boundaries, England’s reply saw them fall to 49-3 in the sixth over.
However, Stokes (52 not out) and Moeen Ali (19) utilised their skills and cool composure to lead England to 138-5 with six balls remaining, finishing off an exciting tournament that lasted 45 games over almost a month.
