Delhi Murder Case: Investigators today revealed that Shraddha Walkar expressed her fears to the police in their hometown of Vasai, Maharashtra, two years prior to the suspected death of Shraddha Walkar by her partner Aaftab Poonawala, whose body was chopped and thrown in a Delhi jungle.
Sources in the Delhi police said that after he beat her up in the apartment they shared, she filed a police complaint and said that his family was aware of his violent tendencies. Following a conversation with his parents, the local police claimed that Shraddha later provided them with another written statement claiming that “we no longer have any quarrel,” and requesting that no further action be taken. Along with one of her coworkers, Karan, to whom she had disclosed the assault, Aaftab’s parents are in Delhi taking statements.
Shraddha’s complaint in 2020
The complaint of November 23, 2020, is connected to what she told Karan on WhatsApp at about the same time, when she also sent him a picture of her battered face. Additionally, she had experienced “internal injuries” and had been sent to the hospital a week earlier.
The letter reads, “Today he tried to kill me by suffocating me and he scares me and blackmails me that he will kill me, cut me up in pieces and throw me away. It’s been six months he has been hitting me but I did not have the guts to go to the police because he would threaten to kill me.”
The 2020 complaint claims he had been abusing her and “blackmailing” her “for six months” with threats of murder, but the couple, who had met on a dating app and started dating around 2019, apparently did not break up. They both worked for contact centres and had relocated to Delhi in May of this year.
Shraddha and her relationship with her family
Shraddha’s parents cut off communication with her because they disapproved of the relationship between Hindus and Muslims. The horrific murder, which took place days after they moved into a Mehrauli apartment in Delhi in May, was only discovered in the past month after her father reported it to the police after learning that she hadn’t been in touch with him or her friends for months.
The letter reads, “His parents are aware that he beats me and that he tried to kill me. They also know about us living together and they visit on weekends.” She was, allegedely, living with him “as we were supposed to get married anytime soon and had the blessings of his family”.
“Henceforth I’m not willing to live with him, so any kind of physical damage should be considered coming from him as he has been blackmailing me to kill me or hurt me whenever he sees me anywhere.”
Couple had travelled to Himachal Pradesh for vacation
They moved to Delhi early this year after spending some time together on vacation in Himachal Pradesh, though it was unclear how long, if at all, they had been away.
Police have an alleged confession, which is not acceptable by itself, as proof of murder so far. The Mehrauli jungle was searched for body pieces, and police are searching for physical signs, particularly a forensic test to determine that some of the body parts are in fact hers in this Delhi Murder Case.
