Bhediya movie review: Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon-starrer Bhediya is an immersive experience with intense but funny dialogues and clever writing. The Amar Kaushik directorial venture also has Abhishek Bannerjee and Deepak Dobriyal, among others in pivotal roles.
While Amar Kaushik’s Stree was a rib-tickling horror comedy, Bhediya is even better. Good comedy, novel VFX, strong screenplay in ample dose, you will have your guts out laughing and howling throughout.
The story is gripping
The story is about a road construction contractor Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan) going to Arunachal Pradesh wanting to make a highway through the dense forests of Ziro. Accompanied by his cousin Janardhan aka JD (Abhishek Bannerjee), he is joined by a local Jomin (Paalin Kabak). As the trio starts their mission of land acquisition from tribals, Bhasker is bitten by a wolf. Soon, he starts behaving like the creature and the story gets more gripping and interesting.
Varun Dhawan owns each frame and look convincing in the new genre. His transformation scenes from man to wolf are stunning and scary both. Comic and serious scenes both come naturally to him.
Kriti Sanon too has done a fantastic job. Abhishek Bannerjee as usual is magical and hilarious. His Hindi dialect and dialogue delivers will leave you in splits. Debutant Paalin Kabak as Varun’s Northeastern friend Jomin is refreshing. Deepak Dobriyal has picked up Northeastern accent and body language well.
Second half gets even better
The movie gets even better in the second half where all the action lies. Though it has its slow moments when it drags, Varun’s scenes as a wolf and Abhishek’s comedy keeps you cracking up for most of the time.
Kaushik has blended the two genres – horror and comedy – very well. Dialogues are intense, funny and also meaningful. Niren Bhatt gets full marks for story and clever writing. Popular Shehnaaz Gill dialogue – ‘Kya karu main, marr jaun? Meri koi feelings nahi hai?’ has been inserted cleverly and leaves the audiencxe in splits.
Bhediya has tried to bring forth the issue of man-animal conflict without getting preachy.
Sachin-Jigar’s music is decent but could have been better.
Bhediya packs a punch with a lot of impressive elements and is worth a watch on the big screen.
