It’s not every day that Amitabh Bachchan appears at an event. The iconic performer, who usually attends news conferences digitally, was in Kolkata for the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF 2022) with wife Jaya Bachchan. Following a few words in Bengali on his association with and love for Kolkata, Big B spoke about civil rights and freedom of expression throughout his address.
‘Questions being raised civil liberties and freedom of expressions’ says Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan attended the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival as a special guest. The iconic entertainer, who seldom attends public events these days, made a very forceful point about civil rights and freedom of expression during his address. Big B shared about his numerous opinions at KIFF 2022 after addressing in Bengali. “In 1952, the Cinematographer’s Act established the system of censorship as it stands today, backed by the film certification board. But, even now, and I am sure my colleagues on stage will agree, questions being raised about civil liberties and freedom of expression.” He said.

Amitabh Bachchan added, “Since early times, there has been shift in content, the topics have changed. From mythical films to art house to furious young men to the current style of history couched in fictionalized jingoism and moral policing, the spectrum has kept audiences engaged on politics and social concerns through single screens and OTTs.”
