Govinda Naam Mera review: Shashank Khaitan directed Govinda Naam Mera has a flat narrative plot. Govinda (Vicky Kaushal) is married to Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar) but has an extra-marital affair with Suku (Kiara Advani). Enter Govinda’s step brother and step mother, and the love triangle gets a new dimension. The step family has come to claim the bungalow that was registered in the name of their father. The property dispute leads to murders and theft. The big question is who is behind the murder? Find the answer in Govinda Naam Mera.
It has some interesting moments
Govinda Naam Mera has some interesting moments that take you into the complicated world of Govinda Waghmare. The film has a good ensemble cast – right from Vicky Kaushal to Kiara Advani, Bhumi Pednekar, Amey Wagh, Sayaji Shinde, Dayanand Shetty, Viraj Ghelani and Renuka Shahane. You hope the story will keep the interest intact. But it is mainly the final 20 minutes of the film that leaves an impact.
There are some comic gags and one-liners, especially the ones with Amey Wagh, that you may smile at. The Bijli song is peppy and Ranbir Kapoor gives it a refreshing touch with his cameo role.
Director Shashank Khaitan seems reluctant
But that’s where it ends. The flat narrative of Govinda Naam Mera is its biggest undoing. The director seems reluctant. The characters are poorly written and the protagonist Govinda doesn’t inspire in any way. While the humour works in a couple of scenes, it falls short of holding the film together.
With Govinda Naam Mera, Vicky Kaushal has experimented with the commercial comic thriller genre and does well. Kiara Advani delivers in a big way and certainly stands out in the film. Bhumi Pednekar is a dominating wife but her talent has been wasted. Amey Wagh is a riot as a lawyer, in-fact, some of his antiques remind us of Ritesh Deshmukh in Housefull. Renuka Shahane, Sayaji Shinde and Dayanand Shetty have not enough to show their potential. Ranbir Kapoor, as usual, is charming in his cameo.
