AUS vs SA: In addition to David Warner’s century during the first Test match between Australia and South Africa in Melbourne, there was another historic occurrence on Tuesday, December 27. Anrich Nortje, a South African pacer, was fielding when he was struck by the spider cam that was filming the game, and spectators at the MCG recorded the extraordinary incident.
Spider-cam knocks off Anrich Nortje
Despite being knocked to the ground following the collision, the left pacer was unharmed and could continue. Fans now experience immersive all-around coverage of the game thanks to the spider cam, which is strung through the cable and moves on the cable both horizontally and vertically.
The spider cam struck Nortje from behind in the 47th over of Australia’s inning as it was heading downward. The event happened during the time between overs, just as the South African pacer was getting ready to field. However, the spidercam operator was later fired from the job by mismanagement. Netizens too called out saying that the incident could have proven to be a severe injury to the player.
