Italian health officials will check for Covid in all visitors from China
Following the discovery of the virus in nearly half of the passengers on two flights to Milan, Italian health authorities will begin testing all passengers arriving from China for Covid. According to a statement from the Health Ministry, the nation is currently sequencing those tests to check if any new variants are emerging from China. Officials may place harsher restrictions on travel from China if a new strain is discovered.

China abandons its strict zero – Covid policy
Since the Chinese government abandoned its strict zero-Covid policy, the virus has been spreading there. Many nations have started to think about new limitations on immigration from the country as a result of uncertainty over the spread’s size. Sebastian Guelde, a spokesman for the Health Ministry, stated that health authorities in Germany are “closely observing” the circumstances in China. Further stated “we have no evidence that a more hazardous mutation has emerged in China, which would warrant the designation of a viral variant area and the ensuing travel restrictions”.
Italy has a high vaccination rate : More than 80% of its people are inoculated
At a press conference on Wednesday, the regional health director for Milan stated that airport officials had tested passengers who had arrived on two flights, one from Beijing and one from Shanghai. Italy’s high vaccination rate is a plus, even though the high viral prevalence has the authorities on high alert. According to the World Health Organization, more than 80% of people have received all recommended vaccinations, and many have additionally received booster injections. Most of Western Europe shares a similar tale.
