West Bengal: According to her husband, a Jharkhand actor was shot on Wednesday during an attempted highway robbery in West Bengal’s Howrah district.
The 30-year-old woman, Riya Kumari, was travelling to Kolkata with her husband, Prakash Kumar, and their 2-year-old daughter from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
When he pulled their car over to the side of the road near the Mahishrekha bridge on National Highway 16 in Rajapur at around 6 am to use the restroom, Kumar, who identified himself as a film producer, informed police that they were attacked.
When his wife spotted the burglars, he said to the police that she got out of the car and tried to stop them. He claimed that they shot her in the ear at close range.
“The husband claims that three men tried to rob him and abuse him, but his wife intervened. They fired at her with weapons before escaping the scene, according to Swati Bangaliana, SP Howrah (Rural). “As per the husband, she was shot from point blank range. We have initiated a case. Investigation is on.”

The police claimed to be investigating the husband’s statement as well
According to Kumar, he drove his wife around three kilometres in search of assistance. Residents of the Pirtala area, who he asked for assistance from, phoned the police.
Police arrived at the scene, and Kumari was then brought to the Uluberia Hospital. She was pronounced deceased by hospital staff members.
According to Swati Bangaliana, SP Howrah (Rural), “The husband alleges that three men attacked him and tried to rob his belongings but his wife came in between. They had weapons, they shot at her and fled from the spot, As per the husband, she was shot from point blank range. We have initiated a case. Investigation is on.”
The police claimed to be investigating the husband’s statement as well.

According to the police, they are searching the area for CCTV cameras. Additionally, they are examining within the automobile for the bullet’s shell.
The husband informed reporters, “Riya is an actor in Jharkhand, people know her well.”

To verify Kumar’s claims, the police stated they will also talk with the child.
“Police will act promptly, identify the people behind it and will ensure they get strict punishment. There are anti-socials everywhere but our administration and government believes in giving them strict punishment,” stated state minister Firhad Hakim.
Dilip Ghosh, national vice president of the BJP, accused the TMC administration of failing to maintain law and order in West Bengal.
“It is an extremely unfortunate incident. Under this government, not even TMC leaders feel safe. Now no one from outside will come here to do business and open a factory. Mamata Banerjee is busy trying to save her leaders. Who will protect the common person?”
