Weather Update: The cold wave continued to grip Delhi. The temperature in Palam was 5 degrees Celsius as of 5.30 am on Saturday morning compared to 7 degrees yesterday, while Safdarjung, the official meteorological station in the capital, reported a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius.
At Lodhi Road and Delhi Ridge, respectively, the lowest temperatures were 1.5 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius. An interesting point to note is that on Friday morning, Aya Nagar, one of the outlying areas of South West Delhi, had a temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius.
The coldwave conditions were anticipated to last through Saturday, January 7, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while now it is possible that they may last till January 11.
Fog hinders train, road, and flight movement
A dense layer of fog covered the nation’s capital on Saturday, causing reduced visibility, and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued a traveller alert.
Before leaving for the airport, travellers were advised to check for current flight information by Indira Gandhi International Airport’s (IGIA) official Twitter account.
Up to 34 domestic flights were delayed as a result of adverse weather and other related issues at the Delhi airport. According to ANI, there are more than 12 arriving planes from various locations that are delayed at the airport. 32 trains are now delayed due to fog in the Northern Railway zone.
Visibility dips further in North India
Beyond Delhi, the current coldwave conditions have worsened throughout other regions of the nation, causing hazy conditions that further hampered vision. Most of the nation had visibility below 200 metres as of Saturday morning at 5:30. The latest weather update has given a cause of worry.
In Jammu, Patiala, Haryana’s Ambala, and Rajasthan’s Churu, the visibility was 25 metres, but in Lucknow, MP’s Satna, and Tripura’s Kailashahar, it was 50 metres. In Bhatinda and Agra, the visibility was zero.
