3. Center wants an additional six months to draught Citizenship Amendment Act rules
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), which must have rules in place before it can be put into effect, has been requested a second extension from the Union Home Ministry for a period of six months. The Ministry is requesting this extension for the sixth time. The Act, which was passed in 2019, expedites the citizenship process for members of the Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Christian, Buddhist, and Jain communities who entered India before December 31, 2014, without any documentation coming from Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh.
