At Tiruchirappalli International Airport, customs people recovered gold worth Rs. 21.55 lakh, including 211 grammes of gold laced with chocolate powder.
Customs officers stopped a passenger who had flown in from Dubai on an Air India flight during checking, officials said on Sunday.
Officers found three containers of chocolate powder that had been cleverly hidden with gold powder mixed in. 211 grammes of 24-karat gold were recovered.
According to them, the passenger’s checked bag also contained the 175 kilogram gold chains.
The found gold is thought to be worth a total of Rs. 21.55 lakhs.
Officials stated that they were still investigating the matter while adding that the passenger had arrived at the airport on Saturday on Air India flight IX612.
