Snowfall Update: Western Himalayas will shortly be affected by an active disturbance from the west. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh’s forward regions have begun to see clouding in advance of the weather system. The majority of the states were covered by clouds by yesterday’s evening, increasing in depth. During the 10th through 13th of January, the snowy clouds will pass across the highlands of North India.
Snowfall to happen in these regions
Over the northern plains, a western disturbance has brought about circulation. In Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, which are mountain resort states, the ever-changing weather will work in harmony with one another to intensify and spread wintry weather. In Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal, snowfall is expected to occur at elevations above 6000′. Snow will fall in Uttrakhand’s mountains higher than 10,000 feet on January 11 and 12.
There will be light to moderate snowfall in the tourist towns of Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Patnitop, Srinagar, Qazi Gund, and Banihal. The skies around Manali, Shimla, Spiti, Dalhousie, Rohtang, and Keylong should see similar activity. In the lower portions of both of these states, thundershowers and widespread rain are probable. Rain and thundershowers are anticipated, with the possibility of hailstorms in a few locations, in Jammu, Udhampur, Katra, Dharamshala, Kangra, Chamba, Khajjiar, and Kullu.
Snowfall in Uttarakhand
The upper elevations of Uttrakhand, such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Auli, and Hemkund Sahib, may get some snowfall, while the lower hills and foothills, such as Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun, Haldwani, Mussorie, Nainital, Joshimath, and Champawat, will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.
On January 14, 2023, there may be sporadic, mild activity from the weather system’s leftovers. Otherwise, between January 14 and January 17, 2023, a significant improvement in the weather is anticipated. From the 18th of January forward, the mountains will be affected by another, albeit milder, western disturbance.
