The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme was launched by the Indian government in 2015 to address issues with gender inequality and women’s empowerment in the nation. The phrase “Save the girl child, educate the girl child” is the meaning behind the name Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The programme aims to increase the effectiveness of welfare services for girls and educate the public about gender bias. With an initial investment of Rs. 100 crore (about $13.5 million), it was launched.
It was introduced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015. It is a national project co-led by the Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health and Family Welfare, and Education that attempts to address the problem of the diminishing child sex ratio image (CSR). Initially, it focussed on multi-sector activity in 100 areas across the nation with poor CSR.
The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) mainly targets the cluster areas in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar and Delhi
