Cricket Australia (CA) said on Thursday that efforts are being made to conduct the third Test as per the original schedule, despite fresh cases of coronavirus infection in Sydney, but Melbourne (MCG) is expected to host the third Test if conditions do not improve.
There is uncertainty about the third Test, which starts in Sydney from 7 January, after new cases of corona infection were found on the northern coasts of Sydney. The Boxing Day Test is to be held in Melbourne from 26 December and is also in the race to host the third Test.
Cricket Australia said in a statement, “We will give Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) full opportunity to host the third Test and Gaba the fourth Test. If the situation does not improve in Sydney, under the emergency plan we will conduct the third Test with the Government of Victoria at Melbourne Cricket Ground and the fourth Test will be played in Brisbane.”
