This occurs just days before the Union Budget, which will be delivered on February 1 and is one of the major events of the year. The Modi administration’s final full-fledged budget of its second term will be delivered on February 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Budget 2023 assumes significance since it will be unveiled in the midst of global unrest, the prospect of a worldwide recession and downturn, issues with inflationary pressure, and geopolitical worries following the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Meanwhile, the finance ministry is looking for spending suggestions from other ministries and departments for the second and final batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants.
The final round of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2022–23 would be suggested to be presented to Parliament during the following session, the ministry noted in an office letter.
Official further stated:
“While processing proposals for supplementary Grants, the Grant controlling authority must invariably identify savings within the Grant so that the infructuous or inflated Supplementary Demands are weeded out and the eventuality of surrender after obtaining Supplementary Grant is avoided,
For the Budget, the finance minister has already met with a variety of stakeholders to seek their opinions. Everyone has their eyes on the next Budget, from the common man to industry stakeholders.
