Snowfall Update: Over the Western Himalayan Region around the next few days, there is a chance for increased snowfall. The Western Himalayan Region is expected to have increased rainfall/snowfall activity, with the chance of severe snowfall, between January 24 and 26, as are the plains of northwest India.
Avalanche Alert in Jammu and Kashmir
On Sunday, the J&K Disaster Management Authority issued a warning about avalanches in eight Union Territory districts. According to the authorities, avalanches with a medium degree of risk are anticipated to occur in the next 24 hours in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, Bandipore, and Kupwara, while avalanches with a low level of danger are likely to occur in Baramulla and Ganderbal.
The authorities stated that people have been urged to exercise caution and stay away from certain places. The region, which had seen nonstop snowfall for the previous 24 hours, was apparently impacted by two avalanches. The worst weather season, known as Chillai Kalan, during which snowfall is most likely and frequent, is currently occurring in Kashmir. Between December 21 and January 30, Chillai Kalan takes place.
Snowfall continues in Himachal Pradesh
Intense snowfalls and avalanches are regularly blocking vehicular movements in the region. This also creates problem in rescue problems. More than 100 roads have been shut as precautionary measures by the authorities.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and snowfall update on January 24. It warned that Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Lahaul, Spiti, and Kinnaur districts might see significant rainfall and snowfall. In addition, it foresaw mild to moderate snowfall in mid- and high-hill areas throughout the course of the following four days, up to January 25.
