The Union Cabinet on Wednesday took a major decision for the country’s defense sector, allowing the export of Akash missile system. According to government sources, nine friendly countries have shown interest in acquiring the Akash missile developed by DRDO.
With the approval of the cabinet, it was also decided to set up a committee to make exports faster. According to a Defense Ministry release, the country under self-reliant India is increasing the capacity to manufacture a wide range of defense equipment and missiles.
The missiles exported will be different from the missiles held by Indian forces. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The export version of Akash missile will be different from the missile currently held by Indian security forces.”

Akash is a surface-to-air missile and has a capacity of 25 km. ”He said that Akash’s export model would be different from the system currently deployed with the Indian Armed Forces.
