Asia Cup 2023: Concern over the Asia Cup 2023 has grown more intense. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is rumoured to hold its next meeting in Bahrain on February 4. Chairman Jay Shah will serve as the meeting’s moderator. Najam Sethi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, is one of the council members who will take part in it. The BCCI and PCB will meet in person to discuss moving the Asia Cup 2023 to a new location, according to a Cricbuzz report. Prior to that, the ACC had given Pakistan the right to host the Asia Cup in 2023. However, Jay Shah, speaking to the Indian media, stated that due to political issues, Indian players cannot travel to Pakistan and the tournament must be held instead. However, Jay Shah told the Indian media that due to political issues, Indian players couldn’t travel to Pakistan and that the competition would instead take place at a neutral location.
Najam Sethi’s stance is similar to that of Rameez Raja
After this, former PCB chairman Rameez Raja made it clear in a statement that he will not go to India for the ODI World Cup if India does not come to Pakistan. The Asia Cup this year is to be held in the 50-over format, last year the Asia Cup was a T20 event. Holding the Asia Cup away from Pakistan could become a bone of contention between the BCCI and the PCB as the current PCB chairman Najam Sethi is of the same stand as Rameez Raja. Sethi had targeted Jai Shah while announcing the program of the Council. He was upset as to why he was not informed about the schedule and calendar when the PCB is hosting the Asia Cup.The ACC refuted his claim, though.
PCB does not have the support of other members in this matter
Shah, on the other hand, has stuck to his stance that India needs the Indian government’s permission before travelling to Pakistan to play cricket. The PCB is also adamant about hosting the competition. However, according to reports, other members do not support the PCB in this matter.
