The official end of this year’s Republic Day celebrations began on Sunday at the Beating Retreat event in Vijay Chowk, New Delhi.
For the Beating Retreat event, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of Army Staff Manoj Pande, and Admiral R. Hari Kumar arrived at Vijay Chowk.
Several spectators gathered at Vijay Chowk, braving the rains in Delhi, to witness the Beating Retreat ceremony.
During the event, the Air Force band sang “Ishwar Jan ko” after forming a formation that represented a spinning wheel, or “Charkha.” The Naval Band played a variety of songs while displaying a formation of “Varunastra” and “Charkha.” Almora, a song written by NK Jaman Singh, was played by the pipes and drum.
Notably, the Beating Retreat ceremony will showcase 3,500 country’s drones in the “biggest drone show” the nation has ever seen, according to officials. The music will be based on Indian classical music.
During the grand ceremony at Vijay Chowk, a 3-D anamorphic projection would be made for the first time on the facades of North Block and South Block, according to a release from the Defence Ministry.
Notably, Major Roberts of the Indian Army invented the distinctive ceremonial of exhibition by the massed bands at the beginning of the 1950s, which is when the Beating Retreat ceremony first appeared.
