The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, on Tuesday approved the Punjab State Sand and Gravel Mining Policy, 2021, to make sand and gravel available at affordable rates to the public including sand and gravel loading charges at mining sites. Will go As per the earlier policy, this rate was ₹ 9 cubic feet at the pit head.
As per the new policy announced by the Chief Minister in his press conference after being approved by the State Cabinet, the royalty rate of ordinary clay and ordinary clay has also been reduced from Rs 10 per tonne to Rs 2.5 per tonne in public interest. Channi was accompanied by Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been repeatedly talking about illegal sand mining, besides several other ministers.
Sidhu, whose relations with Channi have been strained ever since he took over the reins of the Congress government, congratulated him on the sand and gravel mining policy and rate, but also stressed the need to go further to augment the state’s resources.
“I have been advocating that the rate of sand should be fixed. I have been saying that the day the prices are fixed, the mafia will die. Can be made available at the cost of Rs.5.50 per cubic feet” he added.
