Border – Gavaskar Trophy 2023: Amidst the buzz of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, concerns regarding the Nagpur pitch have arisen. Several Australian journalists and ex-cricketers have accused the ground of being manipulated for the first Test match, which is set to take place in the city.

Rohit speaks on Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 pitch

However, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, when questioned about the issue at a press conference on Wednesday, gave a level-headed response. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the match itself rather than dwelling on the conditions of the pitch. Rohit Sharma said, “Just focus on cricket and not the pitch. After all the 22 guys out there are all quality players.”

Emphasizing the significance of spin on the Nagpur pitch, India skipper Rohit Sharma stressed the importance of rotating strike ahead of the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Rohit acknowledged the help the surface will offer to spinners and urged his team to focus on the game rather than the pitch conditions.

Rohit further stated, “It is important to have a plan and figure a way. Everyone has a different method. Some like to sweep some reverse some hitting over the bowler. You need to rotate strike and sometimes you need to counterattack. The captains would obviously try different things and change fields and bowlers. So you need to plan and play accordingly.”

It will be a challenging series: Rohit Sharma

Rohit acknowledged the difficulty of defeating Australia in the 4-match Test series, but emphasized India’s thorough preparation to strive for a successful outcome. “We have four solid test matches to play in the BGT and we would want to win the series. It is going to be a challenging series and we have to be up for it. Preparation is the key. If you prepare well, you get results.”
