Wasim Akram stuns the cricket community
The third and decisive ODI match of the Pakistan tour of Australia in 2002 was crucial, with the victor taking the series title. Pakistan started strong in the Gabba, with opener Imran Nazir scoring 66(73) and Mohammad Yousuf contributing to the cause. Despite the solid start, the Australian bowlers intensified the pressure, causing the middle order to falter. As the ninth batter, Wasim Akram was expected to drive Pakistan to a competitive total.
In the 48th over, with Pakistan at 229/7, Wasim and Yousuf were at the crease. Yousuf hit a boundary and a single in McGrath’s over, before Akram took centre stage. With McGrath charging in, Akram unleashed his fury by striking a boundary and a double, before unleashing two monstrous sixes in the fifth and sixth balls of the over. A display of raw power from the Lahore native, as he added 23 runs to Pakistan’s score in that over alone.
