Cricket Viral Video: Mohammed Azharuddin’s exceptional display of batting during a Test match against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 1996 is often overlooked. The former Indian captain, who was known for his powerful middle-order batting, demonstrated his mastery of the helicopter shot, which was later made famous by MS Dhoni.
Azhar pulls off a perfect helicopter shot
While Dhoni is widely regarded as the originator of the helicopter shot, this recent footage from Twitter provides evidence that Azharuddin was equally proficient in executing the shot. The video shows Azharuddin playing a helicopter shot against the fast bowler Lance Klusener, which resulted in a phenomenal five consecutive fours in one over.
Azharuddin’s century, which he achieved in just 74 balls, was one of the quickest Test centuries in the history of cricket at that time. This remarkable feat was a testament to Azharuddin’s ability to score quickly, and his mastery of the helicopter shot.
