New Delhi: A toddler, aged one and a half, had a miraculous survival after falling into a washing machine filled with soap water, and staying in it for approximately 15 minutes. The child, after receiving seven days of treatment in a coma and on a ventilator, and then 12 days in a ward, has been discharged and has returned home.

Miraculous survive by toddler
The doctors at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi where he received treatment, stated that the child is behaving normally, walking properly, and has recovered fully. When the child was brought to the hospital, he was unconscious, unresponsive, and cold and had difficulty breathing, according to the doctors.
Dr Rahul Nagpal, director of neonatology and paediatrics, said, “He had turned blue, was gasping, his heart rate was feeble, there was no pulse and BP.” It was definitely a mircale as confirmed by the doctor. “Time duration would probably be less than 15 minutes, otherwise he couldn’t have survived.”
The doctor reported that, as per the mother’s account, the child fell into the soap water of a top loading washing machine with an open lid and remained inside for 15 minutes. The mother had left the room and upon returning, could not locate the child for some time. The child was believed to have climbed a chair and accidentally fallen into the machine.
Child spent close to three weeks in hospital
The child was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, as per Dr. Himanshi Joshi, a consultant at the paediatrics department. The medical team provided the necessary treatment, including antibiotics and IV fluids, which helped the child recover. He started recognising his mother and was taken off the ventilator. After spending seven days in the paediatric ICU, he was shifted to the ward where he spent 12 days under observation.
Dr. Joshi said, “Due to soap water, functions of his various organs were compromised, including electrolyte imbalance.He caught chemical pneumonitis — inflammation of the lungs or breathing difficulty due to inhaling chemical fumes or breathing in and choking on certain chemicals — which led to bacterial pneumonia. Later, he also suffered from gastrointestinal infection.” Doctors conducted a CT scan of his brain to check for any neurological complications, but the results showed no immediate damage. The child is now under follow-up treatment.
