AUSW vs SAW T20 World Cup 2023: Australian Women have clinched the T20 World Cup 2023 title. Continuing their dominance in world cricket, Kangaroos won the iconic trophy for the record sixth time as they defeated South Africa by 19 runs. This was also their record-seventh appearance in the finale. They have now won the tournament three times in a row. Beth Mooney was the top scorer for the Aussies with a score of 74*. Despite the heroic knocks from Laura Wolvaardt of 61 from 48 balls, and Chloe Tyron’s 25 off 23, Proteas were unable to chase the target, ultimately losing the match. Chasing 157, South Africa team scored 137 for six in their 20 overs.
Beth Mooney stars in AUS W victory
At one point, victory appeared clear for South Africa when Laura was on the crease as she smashed five boundaries and three maximums during her inning. However, none another batter could play a significant inning. Opener Tazmin Brits managed to score 10 off 17 balls as she also hit one boundary. Skipper Sune Luus scored 2 runs off 5 balls. Kapp, meanwhile, scored 11 off 11. Schutt, Gardner, Jonassen, and Brown picked a wicket each.
Earlier, Australia’s opening player Beth Mooney created history by becoming the first player to hit two fifties in the T20 World Cup finals. She accomplished this achievement by scoring an unbeaten 74, which enabled Australia to get through the score of 156/6. Ashleigh Gardner scored 29 off 21 balls, in which she smashed two boundaries and as many maximums as well. Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp, two Proteas bowlers, both succeeded in taking two wickets.
First South African team to reach the T20 World Cup final
Prior to the match, Australia’s captain Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first against South Africa. Both teams fielded an unchanged XI from the semifinals for the final clash. Proteas Women also scripted history by becoming the first team from their country (South Africa Men and Women) to reach the T20 World Cup final.
