Cricket Viral Video: Kapil Dev, the hero of the 1983 World Cup and several other triumphs of Indian cricket is renowned for his skilful batting. He has played several memorable knocks in his career that came at crucial moments for the Men in Blue. In a similar instance, he once scored 129 vs South Africa in South Africa.
Kapil Dev’s blistering century
The match was dominated by the formidable Allan Donald who took 12 wickets and decimated the Indian batting line-up, leading to a 9-wicket defeat. However, it was Kapil Dev’s heroic innings of 129 runs that is etched in the memory of cricket fans to this day.
During India’s second innings, they were trailing by 63 runs and soon found themselves in a struggling position at 31 for six wickets, making an innings defeat look imminent. But Dev, despite having an injured right hand, rose to the challenge and launched a counter-attack against the opposition. His innings, which lasted 180 balls, included 14 boundaries and one six.

Kapil’s determination and fighting spirit inspired the Indian tail-enders to wag along with him, taking the total to 215, which was still not enough to avoid defeat. Though India lost the match, Dev’s remarkable innings will always be remembered as one of the greatest performances by an Indian batsman on the losing side, alongside VVS Laxman’s iconic 167 in Sydney in 1999-2000.
