Neiphiu Rio: On Tuesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, BJP President JP Nadda, and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, political veteran and chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio took the oath to serve a fifth consecutive term as the state’s chief executive.

Rio will be in charge of an all-party government in the state with no opposition following a resounding victory for his Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is an ally of the NDPP. At the just-completed Nagaland elections, the NDPP-BJP partnership won a total of 37 seats in the 60-member Assembly, 25 with the NDPP and 12 with the BJP.

One seat was won by Janata Dal
The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which ran candidates in 15 assembly districts, also succeeded in opening their account by winning two seats. Also winning two seats were the Naga Peoples Front and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which managed to win seven seats in the northern state. One seat was won by Janata Dal (United).
