A video that shows a Japanese woman being harassed on the festival of Holi led the Delhi police to arrest three people, among them a minor. In a tweet, the woman claimed to have arrived in Bangladesh and to be in good physical and mental health. She didn’t file any complaints with the Delhi police or the embassy of her nation, according to a statement made by the embassy to the news agency PTI.
The males can be seen grabbing the woman in the footage and dousing her in Holi paint. Also, a boy is seen breaking an egg on her head. She can be heard saying “bye bye” on the video at one point. The video was allegedly recorded on March 8 during Holi in a Paharganj area in Delhi, according to the police. The girl in the video is a Japanese tourist who was staying at Paharganj and departed for Bangladesh on Friday.
According to PTI, the police have confirmed on Friday that they had seen the video and were determining if it was of a recent or past incident. People in the video, including a child, have been identified and taken into custody.
When questioned, they admitted to taking part in the incident as seen in the video. According to PTI, they are all residents of a nearby Paharganj area. According to the police, the accused has been the subject of legal action under the Delhi Police Act. But if she makes a complaint, any subsequent legal action will only be considered based on its merits.
The head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, had stated that she was giving the Delhi Police a notice to go at the footage and apprehend those responsible. The National Commission for Women took notice of the video as well and requested that Delhi Police file a FIR.
“@NCWIndia has taken cognizance. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to @CPDelhi to immediately file FIR in the matter. NCW has also sought a fair and time-bound investigation in the matter. A detailed report must be apprised to the commission,” the NCW tweeted.
