The issue of recognizing Mayad language Rajasthani as the official language was taken up in the Vidhansabha today. 20 years ago, the Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to include Rajasthani in the Eighth Schedule, but nothing happened. The reason is simple, Mayad language should be taught in schools for five years, then it would get the status of official language. Here the Education Minister told that a committee has been constituted for this, the process of which is going on.
Will present report regarding recognition of Rajasthani language
During Zero Hour in the Vidhansabha today, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore drew attention to adding Rajasthani as the official language, the state language as the third language in the Board of Secondary Education syllabus under Rule 131 of the Vidhansabha. In response to this, Education Minister BD Kalla replied that all the members had unanimously passed a resolution on 25 August 2003 to recognize Rajasthani language and include it in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The resolution was sent to the Central Government to include Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule, but the matter is still pending.
The minister said that there are many language dialects in Rajasthan, Braj Bhasha, Bagdi, Dhundhani, Hadauti, Mewati, Malvi, Shekhawati. In this regard, the Central Government has been informed from time to time. In the years 2009, 2015, 2017, 2019 and in the year 2023, the then Chief Minister requested the then Prime Minister. Presently the matter is under consideration at the level of the Government of India.
Minister Kalla said – 17 languages have been made official languages in different states
Minister Kalla said that 17 languages have been made official languages in different states. The Official Language Act 1956 exists in Rajasthan. Case is being examined for amendment of Rajasthani as official language. At the same time, literature is being taught in the syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education. Literature test is also being conducted in the schools. This is being done with permission from the competent level as a third language.
Deputy Leader of Opposition said that the resolution was passed in 2003, I was also in it. This is not my intention alone, about 163 MLAs have written a letter to the CM demanding the inclusion of Rajasthani as the official language. Article 345 in the constitution states that the state can include a language other than the official language.
Rathore said that for this Rajasthan Official Language Act 1956 has to be amended. Like other states have amended using this article. All we have to do is bring amendments in this act. This will provide optional subject in RAS-RPS recruitment exams and our children will get benefited in jobs.
Rathore said that the new education policy also has a provision to provide primary education in the mother tongue. Rathore said that on August 18, 1997, a board meeting was to be held in the Board of Secondary Education to adopt Rajasthan as a third language, but it has not happened till date. Rajasthan is a very rich language, it has a vocabulary of two and a half lakh words. In Rajasthan, Meera’s devotion, Jamboji’s voice, Pipoji or Tejaji’s voice are all in Rajasthani. A new language empowerment act can come in all the states, so what are we waiting for.
Rathore said that the language which has been recognized by the UGC, has been recognized by the Government of Nepal, America, examinations are being held in NEET, Laxmikumari Chudawat has received the Padma Shri. It should be given the status of official language. It is the spirit of the House, not a party matter. We could not get the language recognized, but you can assure that together we will give it status. Rathore said that the youth of Rajasthan is agitating to recognize Rajasthani as a second language.
