Imran Khan: Former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan heaved a sigh a relief when a top Pakistani court granted him protective bail in eight terrorist cases and one civil case. He got the bail after her reached the court. Another court also postponed non-bailable arrest warrants against him in a corruption case until March 18.
The leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan arrived in a bulletproof SUV at the Lahore High Court (LHC) to seek precautionary bail in nine cases.
Judges hear bail petitions
Geo TV said, a two-member bench comprising Judge Tariq Saleem Sheikh and Justice Farooq Haider heard bail petitions submitted against cases registered under terrorist laws. They granted bail to Khan in five instances in Islamabad until March 24, and in three cases in Lahore until March 27.
Meanwhile, Judge Saleem heard Khan’s bail requests in connection with the civil lawsuit brought against him, according to the report.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court postponed non-bailable arrest warrants against him until March 18, allowing him to appear before the district court hearing the Toshakhana case.
Tension prevailed near Imran’s residence in Lahore’s posh Zaman Park. For two days a fierce battle was witnessed between his followers and Punjab Police. Things calmed down after the courts intervened on Wednesday.
Presents for profit
Khan is accused of buying presents for profit, including a costly Graff wristwatch he received as premier at a reduced price from the state storehouse Toshakhana.
The Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Khan in October of last year for failing to provide sales information. It filed a case with the district court seeking punished for Khan under criminal law.
Khan has categorically refuted the allegations. He said he was facing over 80 separate cases in various courts around Pakistan.
