Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from the Central Jail in Patiala on Saturday. This information has been shared from Sidhu’s official Twitter handle. It said that the jail authorities have informed about the release. The 59-year-old Congress leader is serving a one-year sentence in the 1988 road rage case. On May 20 last year, Sidhu surrendered before a court in Patiala after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year rigorous imprisonment.
Sidhu is being released 48 days before the completion of his sentence. Sources said that Sidhu neither took parole nor leave. That’s why they are being released ahead of time. Punjab minister Brahm Shankar Zimpa said on Friday that the cabinet has approved the release of prisoners who have completed their sentences. The talk of releasing Sidhu earlier on January 26 came to the fore, but later the Punjab government refused to grant any exemption to Sidhu. Because of this his release was postponed. Sidhu’s lawyer HPS Verma told that he will come out of jail on Saturday between 11-12 noon and will go straight home.
Wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu became emotional before Sidhu’s release
On Friday, a day before the release of Navjot Singh Sidhu, his wife Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu put out an emotional tweet. She wrote that Navjot Singh Sidhu’s love for Punjab was more than anything, so he had even sought death for himself in anger to teach Sidhu a lesson. Now just waiting for God’s grace. Dr Sidhu had shared information about suffering from breast cancer stage two by tweeting in the past. After this, she also underwent surgery in a private hospital in Derabassi.
