The Punjab Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Friday approved a 25 per cent per acre hike in compensation due to unseasonal rains.
This decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting held in Chandigarh. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that keeping in view the loss caused to farmers due to the rains, the cabinet decided to increase the relief amount for crop damage from Rs 12,000 per acre to Rs 15,000 per acre.
Farmers affected by this decision will be able to get proper financial relief from the government.
These relief rates will be applicable from March 1. The cabinet also gave its consent to extend the exemption of 2.25 per cent stamp duty and duty on registration of its property or land till April 30, keeping in view the larger public interest.
Those opting for registration of land will now be exempted from one per cent additional stamp duty, one per cent PIDB fee and 0.25 per cent special fee.
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of 2574 Kisan Mitras and 108 Field Supervisors in the Agriculture Department. On the one hand this step will act as a catalyst to save ground water by promoting crop diversification program and on the other hand it will provide employment to the youth of the state.
