MI vs KKR IPL 2023: In the 22nd match of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians has defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of five wickets. The match took place at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This is the second consecutive victory for Mumbai after facing three back-to-back defeats at the start. KKR batted first after losing the toss and piled up 185/6 in 20 overs, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s maiden century in IPL (104 off 51 balls), which was the first-ever century by KKR batter since 2008.
In response, the home team chased down the target with ease by smashing boundaries for fun and chasing down the total with 14 balls to spare. Regular Skipper Rohit Sharma was out from playing X1 due to a stomach bug. Suryakumar Yadav took his place as stand-in captain and he was later called up as an impact player. Arjun Tendulkar also made his debut today and bowled two overs, however, he failed to take any wickets.
MI Batters’ classy performance
Coming into the chase of 186 runs, Mumbai Indians had a quick-firey start as they had a first-wicket partnership of 65 runs in 4.5 overs. The start was quite blazing for the home team. Rohit Sharma scored 20 runs off 13 balls while Ishan Kishan scored 58 runs in 25 balls. Their knock gave an ideal start to the team in the big chase.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav scored 43 off 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and three maximums, announcing his comeback to form. Tilak Verma played yet another crucial knock scoring 30 runs in 25 balls. Meanwhile, Tim David came in last and scored 24 off 13 balls. Suyash Sharma grabbed a couple of wickets while Varun Chakravarthy & Shardul Thakur picked a wicket each as well.

Venkatesh Iyer’s Magnificient century
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders did not have an ideal start in the game as the continuous fall of wickets in the start affected their gameplay. Venkatesh Iyer was the highlight of the inning as he smashed 104 runs in 51 balls, hitting six boundaries and nine maximums. This was also the first-ever century by KKR batter since 2008. Brendon McCullum hit the first century from the team, a knock of 158* which came in the first ever match in the history of IPL.
Rusell was the second-highest scorer with 21 runs off 11 balls, hitting three boundaries and a maximum. Rinku Singh slammed 18 off 18, Shardul Thakur scored 13 off 11, while skipper Nitish Rana scored 5 runs off 10 balls. Hrithik Shokeen grabbed a couple of wickets while Green, Jansen, Chawla, and Meredith picked a wicket each as well.
