It was the India vs New Zealand 1st Test in 2003, and the young wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel was at the crease. The commentator on air described Patel as “baby-faced,” which the batsman heard, and it seemed to have fueled him with anger. Patel decided to show the commentator what he was capable of and went on to hit back-to-back fours in the very next over. The first boundary was an elegant cover drive that left the fielders stunned, and the second one was a powerful pull shot that raced to the boundary.
The crowd was ecstatic, and the commentator had to admit that he may have stirred up the batsman with his words. Patel went on to score 29 runs in just 24 balls, which included five boundaries.
