RCB vs PBKS IPL 2023: In a surprising move, Virat Kohli has resumed as captain for Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL 2023 game against Punjab Kings in Mohali on Thursday. After stepping down as RCB’s captain two years ago, it was a pleasant surprise to see Kohli leading the team at the toss. While there were concerns about Shikhar Dhawan’s availability due to an injury, Kohli’s leadership in place of Faf du Plessis generated more buzz even before the match began.
Why Virat Kohli is captaining in RCB vs PBKS IPL 2023 match?
This decision could be a result of Du Plessis’ injury woes in the previous game, indicating that he may not have fully recovered yet. Although he begins as a starter for RCB while batting first, Kohli disclosed that he would later be replaced by an Impact Player. This strategy was recently employed in the Mumbai Indians versus Kolkata Knight Riders game, where Suryakumar Yadav initially captained MI and Rohit Sharma later joined the second innings as their Impact Player.
During the toss, Kohli stated, “Faf potentially can’t be fielding today, so he’ll be playing as a impact player, switching with Vyshak. We got to do what we wanted, we would have batted first, the pitch could get slow, some scruff marks will help the bowlers going deep into the game. Taking one game at a time, focussing on our own game, make the most of crunch situations, we haven’t done that so far in the tournament. No other changes for us.”
However, toss woes continued for Kohli as he lost the toss yet again after becoming the captain once again. The home team, PBKS, won the toss and opted to field first. After the powerplay, RCB scored 59 runs without losing any wicket. Du Plessis’ role as a batter is significant for the team.
